Fu*K the Rules. Let’s have Fun!
I've tried to play by the rules.
(Stop laughing, I have!)
I genuinely have tried, and I don't understand the point anymore. It's not worth the time or energy to keep banging my head against the wall and getting nowhere.
It is time to do "it" my way or, more accurately, time to do things in any way that is not what I've been doing.
There are so many things I am unbelievably good at:
Being sarcastic.
Doing silly dances
Walking
Swearing like I was born at a truck stop in the middle of a January snowstorm at 3am (I wasn't).
Finding the best snacks.
Planning epic grand road trips.
Painting.
Cartwheels. (Yes, I can still pull off a cartwheel; no, I won't show you).
But then there are things I can't fucking figure out. The number one gear grinder: I can't make the shop page on my website function how I want it to.
I built the whole website, and it's lovely, and it works; I am so happy with it, but the shop is a shit show, so I don't update it.
In fact, I do nothing useful with it other than paying Squarespace for the privilege of having it and being annoyed with myself for not using it.
But as a "Working Artist," I need to sell my art, which means I have to have a functioning vehicle in which to do so.
So I’m throwing traditional shop updates out the window! Here's how this will go down —for now.
(Presumably, I will get annoyed with this method too, and force myself to figure out the shop situation.)
But until then.
It's going to be very "Jill".
Unpolished, unfiltered, sporadic, and spontaneous!
YASSS!
One and done.
Slam Bam, thank you, Mr. Postman.
AND!! AND!! AND!!
I think/hope this will inspire me to draw more, sketch more, and make more impromptu art, which I have wanted to do for a while now.
Here is the plan:
Each issue of the Nibbler will contain an excruciatingly small print run, an original sketch, an original painting, or, who knows - the options are endless. Paid subscribers will get an early notice, unpaid subscribers will get second notice, and then everyone esle.
No more shop updates!!!!
(I recognize this is a confusing statement because there haven't been any shop updates. What you don't see is me planning a shop update, stressing about it, not doing it, feeling bad, planning to do it again, not doing it…You see the issue.)
OMG, I'm so excited AND so relieved!!
This feels so achievable!!
This feels like a game!
Like a little Nibbler party for each issue - what will I post? Will it be a rock with googely eyes, a used tea bag from France, or a gorgeous new painting?!
This feels like freedom.
I can go places with a sketchbook and a few envelopes and not have to worry about "closing my shop," putting up a shop "vacation reminder," asking neighbors to break into my house and prepare a shipment, or traveling with a selection of prints and shipping envelopes at the bottom of my suitcase.
(These are all things I have done and genuinely never want to do again!)
Are you excited??!!
I'm so excited I might go cartwheeling down the street!!!
The finer details:
I'll post the quantity and link payment details at the end of each Nibbler issue. It will be first come, first served.
I will set it up so that the portal will not take your $$ if all the quantities have been claimed.
Ironically, I'll be using my website shop, but on my terms.
Gosh, so much bold print - can you tell how excited and thrilled I am with myself?!
So, let's start!
I made five prints of "Blue Vase,".
The prints are 4x6 and come with a white mat.
I have signed and numbered them.
That makes them special because now they are a limited edition.
Whoooo shiny! ✨
They are $28 each, which includes shipping and all my loving care and handling, ensuring they reach you in perfect condition.
**The first five people to click HERE and complete the order will get them!!
Done and done.
No more inventory management.
No more feeling like I should do something I don't want to do.
I am also excited about these prints!!
They came out so well. I'm experimenting with a new paper supplier (Red River Paper Co.) and am super happy with the results thus far.
Thoughts, ideas, compliments, complaints?!
I’m here for it!
