Coming Full Circle

Practice hydrangeas

I've wandered away from working with watercolor in the last few months. It's so easy to get distracted with so many options, onboarding our new family member, and the extra long days of summer. I've also been deep diving into learning digital art and attempting to keep up with the demands of the cooperative gallery I am a member of.

I guess that's the beauty of autumn as things begin to cool down, quite literally and figuratively. I've been able to turn my attention back to watercolor and fall in love again.

I've missed it. I miss the feeling of the brush on paper and the satisfaction of watching the paint run and seep into the paper, making magic or tragedy. The pain and the beauty of watercolor is its unpredictability.

There were external motivations as well to dive back in. I have this special portrait to do. It's a surprise, so I can't show you anymore until it's done and has been sent on its way.

Additionally, I've accepted a commission of six watercolor Alaska Zoo animals. Which I am enjoying very much. Here are photos of the first four. The raven is still in progress, but I am loving all his colors.
